During this golden era, the adult film "chic" phenomenon developed. Plotted adult films spilled into the mainstream and were critically reviewed. Hugh Hefner’s Playboy regularly highlighted pornographic films within its pages. Roger Ebert actually reviewed movies such as this one. By the early 1980s, actresses like Susan Sloan (I swear she’s Elisabeth Moss’es twin), Angel Barrett, Jennifer Jordan, and Heather Austin, stars of this film, were replaced with more visually appealing stars as there was a prolific and pervasive explosion of use of enhanced anatomical parts and less body hair.
This film has all the taboos. Jack plays a school headmaster in London in 1874. He only likes maidenheads (virgins) and was deathly afraid of sexually transmitted disease. Jack had turned an old insane asylum into his home and he had renovated a soundproof basement he calls the snuggery. The room, equipped with various devices, straps, whips, and feathers, was used to hold and rape women.
Alice and Jack were engaged to be married, but Alice’s father forced them to break the engagement because he thought Alice was too good for Jack. Alice arrives at Jack’s residence to return some books and is lured into the snuggery. Alice eventually becomes complicit and helps Jack entice other women into his snuggery. Alice and the other women then turn the tables and conspire and orchestrate revenge. The original music is fluffy classical music.
