Black & White

This movie, another in the sexploitation genre, but with very respectable depth of plot, is about candidate Bruce Harrington (Harold Herbsman credited as Harold Retlow), a wealthy individual with a respectable public image, running to become senator and leading in the polls. Bruce married Helen (played by Janis Young), and they were both older when they got married. Both Bruce and Helen have skeletons in their closets. Bruce’s mental health issues have made him a secret sadomasochist while Helen had a promiscuous past which led to her being drugged, raped, and institutionalized for a period of time.

Bruce keeps the secret from everyone including Helen and continues a sadomasochistic relationship with his maid Elizabet (played by Jennifer Welles and credited as Elizabeth Aubert). About a week before the election, the compromising photographs resurface. A lowlife introduced as Ralph (played by Osgood Scott), uses them to extort $10,000 at first but then wants more and even attempts to extort Helen for sex. Helen, in a struggle to stop Ralph from raping her, accidentally pushes Ralph back into a sharp pair of scissors on the fireplace mantle. Helen then covers up Ralph’s death by disposing of the body and getting rid of Ralph’s vehicle. After she completes the cover up, Helen accidentally walks in on Bruce during one of the whipping sessions with Elizabet. Both Bruce and Harold confess their sins to each other, Harold is elected Senator, but in the end, the body is found.
