The Golden Era saw the production of a number of adult westerns. A number of filmmakers began showing the actual realities of the frontiers in the 1800s in more graphic detail. The film quality here is above average. There is incest, sexual assault, revenge killing, voyeurism, lesbian relations, and prostitution making this a perfect example of an exploitation film which meets the mark for the sexual revolution. The majority of "Linda and Abilene" was filmed in June 1969 at the Spahn Movie Ranch, located in Chatsworth, Los Angeles, California. The Manson Family inhabited the ranch at the time. The Spahn Ranch was destroyed by fire in 1970.
The lead actresses are Sharon Matt who plays Abeline. Bambi Allen plays the prostitute Linda. Bambi died tragically in 1973 at the age of 34. Allen also used the stage names Holly Woodstar, Roxanne Jones, and Roxane West. She had health complications resulting from silicone injections intended for breast augmentation. Two films, Drifter (1974) and Tom (1973), were released after her death.
