Men in the West advertised for wives and saloon work in Europe and often paid for the passage of women in exchange for marriage or work. By providing funds for transportation, initial living costs, marriage or a share of the profits, many women were lured to the Americas. Travel was financed in return for debt bondage. The film starts in England. Unscrupulous brokers offer pretty girls rich husbands in America. Lady Godiva has been having an affair. Unfortunately, she gets caught in the act by the lord and she escapes to America. The movie is loosely based on the legend of Lady Godiva, the Anglo-Saxon noblewoman who, according to folklore, rode naked through Coventry to protest her husband's oppressive taxation.
